We knew the graphic artist, designer, publisher, and a little less the photographer, yet he is surprising in the way he captures the world’s beauty, moments oh happiness and the people he loves, transforming all into art.
In addition to childhood, his favourite themes include women and travel, that moment of rest, that feeling of lightness arising out of possible understanding with the world.
His emotional geography is Mediterranean: the sea is never far from the window. No need to photograph the horizon to make it felt. A detail is enough. All the art of his images is in allowing the eye to cover wider space, an expanse we imagine as immense, near and far at the same time.As you will have noticed, to set up the right distance, giving the feeling of a moving body or a face within reach and fully in the landscape, Grégoire Gardette comes fairly close, enough to let it gently extend out of the field. This arrangement with such natural beauty – beauty reminiscent of dance – is governed by the clarity, simplicity and precision characterizing all his work. This is why, rather than sensational or spectacular pictures, he prefers gentle alliances, pages bulit on discreet affinities, harmony, barely imperceptible complicty expressing a true photographer’s frank way of feeling and experiencing.
Grégoire Gardette is one of those people who never seems to stop. A creator who is constantly on the move, he has invented his own rich palette combining the graphic arts, photography and design, and travels with the same enthusiasm through each land, real or imaginary, to grasp the essence of that ideal mystery – the beauty of our world.
From one medium to another, the images Grégoire has made and shared for over 25 years pay subtle witness to his generous eye, informed as it is by his wanderings and encounters. An inspired creative director, he has worked with major establishments around the globe and leading names in the worlds of culture, the art of living, travel and beauty. A surveyor of faraway places, where the intimate meets the unfamiliar, Grégoire also invites us on our own inner journeys. From his Mediterranean roots, he has drawn the wisdom of an age-old art of living and a refined style outlined by sea and light.
After training as a graphic designer and obtaining a master’s degree at the University of Fine Art of Shanghai, Paul is a recognized film maker. For 6 years in China, co-founder of the Nomade Network Production company, he has directed the most remarkable clips for Hennessy cognacs, Cartier international, Ballantine’s whisky, or the Jumeirah hotel in Nanjing.
